    hard disk corrupted

an officemate here send us her PC running a NMIS server. days before, the server isn't connected in the internet. the problems starts when the PC was conected to the internet days ago. she said it was used like, only two hours on th einternet. after that the problem occurs. it was brought here with disk boot failure error (no floppy disk on the floppy disk). then we check it on the other PC if the drive can be read as slave. but did not.

is it possible that the PC was infected with virus?
the disk can be detected on BIOS. but it cant be seen on the list of drives in windows.
any programs to recover the failures of the disk?

    thank you.

MMC is Microsoft Management Console. You can get to disk management mmc by right clicking My Computer and going to manage. Disk management should be in the list on the left.

Have a look here for some diagnositic tools designed for your particular hard drive.

    Oh Most Honorable Ones,

Please forgive me for letting these words slip past my tongue:

    Click on this: SpinRite

    ~cheers~

Edit: To partially redeem myself - you should be able to use a Linux Live CD to copy them to another drive. There are many here's a couple: Knoppix, WHAX (was whoppix)
    Connection refused, try again later.
