Problems?
Computer has been acting funny since Sunday. AOL shuts down for no reason, and my McAfee security center doesn't seem to want to stay on (I've run Adaware, Spybot and Spysweeper).
This forum has helped before. Here's the hijackthis file...anyone see anything?:
By the way, I'm running XP Pro.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
It also looks like you have a handful of malware removal tools. make sure none of them are conflicting. Most of the time two very similar programs running at the same time is a very bad idea, they go for the same resources, and with mcafee (as well as other scanners) that use an on access (when you touch the file it scans it) method they get overly triggered by other scanners. so say adaware is scanning, every file it scans mcafee will scan, but if you have two programs running on access scanning then they will get caught on eachother and just pull resources. you dont need 5 spyware removal tools, so uninstall some of them.
From what I see you have mcafee anti-spyware, spysweeper, you said you use adaware and spybot, you also have spam subtract running (which also does scanning so it triggers mcafee) etc. thats a whole lot.

Don't get rid of it. This is the monitor installed for AC '97 sound drivers which is most likely your on board sound.

The first is for an IBM SoftModem Messaging Applet for your AMR modem.
The next two are part of NVidia graphics controller.

sounds like spyware to me...legal spyware, but resource hungry spyware none the less. Its not necessary from what I have seen in the research I have done, and is spyware.

Yes, I have McAfee, SpySweeper, SpyBot, and Adaware. McAfee is the default, and the others (except SpySweeper) only run when I access them. I also have CWShredder. I added all of them after a particularly malicious problem some time ago (when I first found this forum). Each of them finds something a little different, sometimes even when run one after the other.
I may not need all of them, but I'm not getting rid of them, either. I don't want to go through another problem like the one I had before.
All that aside, it sounds like there's nothing here that you see would be causing the issues I mentioned. Must be something else going on!

if two programs are conflicting they can EASILY casue your problems.
I may not need all of them, but I'm not getting rid of them, either. I don't want to go through another problem like the one I had before.
If they dont run unless you tell them to then they are in no way preventing a problem, they are fixing it once it has already started. These are REMOVAL tools not PREVENTION tools.
McAfee and spysweeper are doing the same thing and are probably conflicting with eachother. McAfee is actually doing other things also, perhaps turn off the spyware feature on McAfee and just use Spysweeper (in my expierience it is better fot that anyway)

yes it can. among other things. There also seems to be a whole lot of stuff going on with mcafee. and a ton of other running processes. this in it self could kill a net connection.
