Hmmmm. Do we now have 33.000 people added to the Witness Protection Scheme's in the USA? Poor taxpayers dollars. First they aren't used to keep this information secure and now it has to be used to keep these people safe...

not really... they are gonna say "uh yea, your SSNs got jacked, so if you have strange credit activity, let us know..." its not like these were CIA agents or something, commisioned officers are in no way a secret.

What I am fearing is the use of this info if sent to a country we are at war with, an enemy could say "im holding *soldier* captive, their SSN is *SSN*" and that could cause a panic, and then after doing this several times the military would be dealing with a "boy who cried wolf" type thing and be less prone to respond to a real incedent.

Not even really because this is the air force we are talking about if it was the marines that would be a very good idea but it is the air force and very little people in the air force see any combat at all even fighter pilots see very limited if any combat zones, one reason is the a modern fighter jet can lock on up to 30 targest past the horizon so a fighter pilot neavor needs to get that close to its target to hit it. so how could they capture some one who has neavor been in a combat zone they really cant so i would not worrie about that.

the enemy also has this ordinance, and it's not always friendly ground beneath.
and at mach 1+ how long before the 'horizon' is in your cockpit ?

also the USAAF supports the PBI [poor bloody infantry] and so they ARE in a combat zone
and there are rules for that sort of thing, see rule 24 :

    "The Rules of Combat"

    1. If the enemy is in range, so are you.

    2. Incoming fire has the right of way.

    3. Don't look conspicuous: it draws fire.

    4. The easy way is always mined.

    5. Try to look unimportant, they may be low on ammo.

    6. Professionals are predictable; it's the amateurs that are dangerous.

    7. The enemy invariably attacks on one of two occasions:
    a. When you're ready for them.
    b. When you're not ready for them.

    8. Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.

    9. If you can't remember, the claymore is pointed at you.

    10. If your attack is going well, you have walked into an ambush.

    11. Don't draw fire, it irritates the people around you.

    12. The only thing more accurate than incoming enemy fire is incoming friendly fire.

    13. When the pin is pulled, Mr. Grenade is not our friend.

    14. If it's stupid but works, it isn't stupid.

    15. When in doubt empty the magazine.

    16. Never share a foxhole with anyone braver than you.

    17. Anything you do can get you shot. Including doing nothing.

    18. Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you can't get out.

    19. Mines are equal opportunity weapons.

    20. A Purple Heart just proves that were you smart enough to think of a plan, stupid enough to try it, and lucky enough to survive.

    21. Don't ever be the first, don't ever be the last and don't ever volunteer to do anything.

    22. The quartermaster has only two sizes: too large and too small.

    23. Five-second fuses only last three seconds.

    24. It is generally inadvisable to eject directly over the area you just bombed.
so now I'm in my SIXTIES FFS
WTAF, how did that happen, so no more alterations to the sig, it will remain as is now

who said they actually need a person caputred? Broadcast on some news station a person wearing an american flight suit, with a bag tied over his head and say "I have captured *name* etc..." the reaction alone (before the military can confirm/deny) would be a nice propoganda tactic. not to mention wasted resources trying to find if this report is legit. Now do this 30,000 times. Then at say the 26,543rd time its real, how long do you think it would take the military to actually deal with this?

    depends on the enmy.

Really not that far but US fighter pilots fire befor they get their. what I ment was as of now if you asked a person in the airforce if airforce personal wear in combat zones they would say very few enter them and not many of the few stary for a long period of time I know this for a fact becuse I just finished a job of a military research and their I have spoken to many people in the armed forces and this info came from some one in the air force. Also I was talking about as of now not in a time of war ware fighter jets are being used for bombing missions on a daily bases.

O no it would be easy I was just saying that the likelihood of them actually capturing an officer is very small not that doing that is a bad idea for the other side but ablity of them to be able to actually capture a officer is small and the airforce knows it thats all i was stateing.

yes I have and Jets are not being used on a daily basis for bombing runs, their are just a few their for Escorts and security. Also Iraq is not considered a war (why i have no idea) but its not.

no declaration of war...like in vietnam. This is a war on terrorism, not against iraq.

Ok, but their are jets in the area. My point is, no one actually has to be captured. They have a name and a social security number. And im sure there are air force personnel on the ground there (I know this for a fact actually) , and being that HALF of the comissioned officers in the air force were in the group of accessed files, the odds are fairly good that atlease some of them are there.
