Gateway laptop HDD replacement?
My friend is looking for a hard drive replacement for a 2 year old Gateway
laptop. What do you recommend?
I haven't a clue, but I really want to help him out.
edit
He has more inquiries:
"What do you recommend on a portable hard drive and enclosure?"

One thing to watch out for is the size of the new harddisk.. Some BIOSes cannot handle the sizes that are 'normal' these days.. The other size to watch for is it's physical size.. Some 2.5inch harddisks are bigger.. it might not fit..

Have you been able to get the drive out of the laptop?
It would probably be safer to replace it with a similar brand/model if possible.
The laptop is only 2 years old. I don't think you should have too many problems.

My young padawan's, be diligent. Do not impetuously throw money at the egg for they are known to bilk one. I was hoping on you all to name a good brand, not a google splash. I told him to trash it; it's not his dollar. I've talked him into requesting the ITdept. to order a new IBM X-series, which they have.
Thanks a million all!

Well, I suggested the egg so you could read the comments about the different brands... Their comments and what they rate the HDD will usually be enough info for you to make your decision .
Or is that what you mean by bilking people... that they sometimes give false info?

They haven't accepted a review from me yet. Some of mine were harsh but some weren't.
