HI your M/B runs best with 2 matching 333MHz sticks of ram as it is dual channel.
As for the fsb it should be on 200 MHz. 200MHz x 2 = 400 MHz hence the 400 in A7N8X-VM/400. your fsb is dual pumped, unlike the P4 that is quad pumped. In your Bios setting for the cpu set it on autodetect.you are running your system at 333 MHz hence the 166 MHz you see.
hope this helps in some small way, i run the same system as you only i have the A7S8X-VM/400 DELUXE mobo

In your Bios setting for the cpu set it on autodetect.
That's the whole problem, there's no option in BIOS to change the cpu settings. Under which category do you have the option to change the setting?
Another thing I tried was to reset the BIOS to the original settings and then tried to start it to see if it autodetects and changes the speed. But nothing happened. I'm stumped!

My bad ... It seems that one of my RAMs is completely screwed. That's why I was having a problem with gentoo.
Thanks for the reply Laser.
I guess this thread doesn't make much sense now, could one of the mods close it ?
