How much data do you have to back up?
Can you get another Hard drive? Borrow a DVD burner?
Are you on a network?

See if you can send them to one of your room mates computers then copy them back over when you are ready.

The easiest way is to do it over a network connection...if its not 95\98 they just dont network right...reboot, reboot, reboot
Or remove the hardrive and slave it into another machine and pull the data that way

Exactly or buy a cheap box you can all use as a server. You can all backup your files to it then!

Here's what you can do. Create a new zip folder on your desktop and start dropping data you want to keep in it. Don't go over a gig per new zip folder. Then go to www.yousendit.com and use their storage for a while. Or compose a bunch of files through a free email service. That way you can store data for free until you get back on your feet.
And may I suggest the LG GSA-4163B for a new burner?
