    Voter ID

I read this editorial advocating the use of photo IDs for
    people to vote.

Lest you forgot, not everybody has a drivers license. And what the hell is up with the overuse of the word "disenfranchise"?

In Canada your driver's license, your health card, bus passes, and soon your SIN card, all have your picture on it...even the libraries have looked into picture id...

it's the wave of the future.

    Hmmm,

It is a very interesting question....................over here all I have to do is turn up and state my name and address (verbally) and I can vote.

If the mailman cannot deliver a package (an ordinary post one!) and I go to collect it, I have to prove my ID.........................I even have a laminated photo-ID card to get in my local park!.........OK I could get in by just paying but I have a season ticket

Presently you do not need an ID to vote. You walk up
to a table. A person is looking at a big list. If you can read
upside down, just say one of the names on the list, and the
address. If the real person comes later, then you're long gone.

Ummm...I haven't really checked into it lately, but the only time I've ever voted without presenting a picture ID was when my mom was the lady doing the voter check-in. You have to present your voter ID card, and a picture ID with a matching address, or some other official document (your electric bill, etc) that matches the address on the voter registration card and a picture ID.

Personally, it just seems like a push for one step closer to a national ID card, whether that is the intention or not. Either of which, I don't mind. As I currently have 4 types of government ID in my wallet (along with 2 additional types), I wouldn't mind a singular ID/Drivers lisence with a smart chip in it. (So much less cumbersome to my wallet space) Although, IDs don't scare me like some. I've never been one to wrap aluminium foil around my head and conspire against "the man".
