    Search for 'Hosts'

Right click on 'Hosts' (no extension, not HOSTS.SAM) open with notepad

    Insert line

    Save

    Change properties to read only.

First you have to find it.

    Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts

    Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

    Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

(you may need administrator access for Windows NT/2000/XP)

Usually, you will only find hosts.sam, which is a sample file.
The hosts file is not enabled by default. Open hosts.sam, or make a copy
of it. Add the line you want, and then save as hosts with no
file extension. Notepad is brain-dead, and will try to save it
as hosts.txt. If it does, just right click the file and rename it.
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.

What does akamaitechnologies hitting ports have to do with your host file? Maybe you should tell us what exactly you're trying to accomplish as I have a feeling it doesn't really have much to do with a host file.

Akamai IIRC, is just a bandwith front to Microsoft?

    Wouldn't that be normal?
