Standard PCI Graphics Adapter VGA

I have a Standard PCI graphics adapter(vga) version 4.0 (OS: windows 98 se) and I get only 2 and 16 colours and only 640x480. What is the problem? Do I need to upgrade the driver?If yes Where do I get the drivers?


Here is more information about my system:

AMD K6(tm) 3d Processor
AGP Rage Pro Built into the motherboard
Monitor: Compaq Presario MV500 color monitor

Upgrade the driver. Try the manufacturer's site first, it would be in the support area of the site.

Otherwise, try www.driverguide.com

Sounds like it is going into "safe mode" from the video point of view.

Boot into BIOS setup and turn the onboard video off, this probably means changing the setting from AGP to PCI?

Make sure that the screen is attached to the card, not the MoBo.

Wait... are we dealing with multiple cards here?

If so, the onboard card can usually be disabled in the BIOS setup.

Thanks for all your input. I went to driverguide.com and got the ATI driver from there. It finally worked. I will check my bios. I believe I have only one card. This driver from the recommended website worked.

Hi d0pp that was my thinking too...............he mentions "PCI" and an onboard AGP? The "PCI" should be a card in one of the white expansion slots.

Whatever it is, the symptoms are typical of having the BIOS video set incorrectly, so the first thing that I would try is changing the setting in the BIOS.
