configuring dvd rom/liteon1673d for video files?

and thanks for quick response.
i have dvd burner liteon 1763s and dvd rom pioneer.
When i want to play video dvd it doesnt get open by windows video player.It tries to open it with reeal player but it comes with message enecpected error has to close down.
When i try to open it with cyberling dvd 5 it comes with message an object name was not found error code 80040216.
did anyone come accross with similar problem and how to configure this to play.Have heaps of the other movies and video files and i dont have problem to open them with real player or dvd 5.

I updated firmware on liteon some time ago but i dont think that is related as i can open the others files.
Is it problem with codecs?
How to set up that dvd 5 opens this files automatically or window media player??

1. Are you able to play these other media files from a DVD or from your hard drive?
2. Will the Liteon play CDs?
3. If you close the error messages and open Windows Media Player manually, can you open the DVD. If not what messages do you get?
4. Will the DVD play on another machine?
5. You seem to have two DVD drives............can you play the DVD with the other one?
6. Do other DVD disks play on either drive?
7. What operating system...............have you updated it?
8. Is your Windows Media Player up to date?...........what version are you running?

grr feel stupid when i dont provide basis info (forgetful)
xp pro sp2
liton plays cds no problem
Windows are up to date
Windows media player 10
The other dvd play on both drives
This particular dvd playes in my theatre system (sony dv8000) no problem
This particular dvd doesnt play in any of my 2 dvd drives.
I can play any media from hard drive.
(dont have this dvd files saved on hard drive )

Ok was trying to configure windows media player and managed to make it to open video files.
i was able to play this dvd in windows media player.this is what i done:
oopened windows media player.Under section "now playing "is little icon click that and expandes to 4 options.Clicked plugs in and then other and then under files type selected all to play with (open) windows media player.
Now this dvd is playing.
but can not still play it in cyberlink dvd 5.(but dont really care ) managed it to work.

Don't worry, my questions were more "fault diagnosis" ones. Your answers woul have given me the probable cause. In the process you found it.

It sounds like a file type/codec problem as I suspected:

To get the other DVD software to work you need to make sure that it has the plug-ins for these as well.
