Amd Cpu
Hey guys,
I need some help. I am shopping for a new CPU. I was told to purchase the AMD 64 4000 for games, but I also was told to purchase the AMD X2 3800. I dont know what to go for? Will someone please let me know which is better for gaming. I purchase the Readon X800XL. I purchased it for $250. Should I return it and purchase the nDivia 6800GT? I will also need a motherboard. I would appreciate if some one can help me out.
Thanks.........

you need a CPU AND a Mo/Bo ?
what DO you have already ?
I assume you do already have a working system, and that you are wishing to upgrade ?
you say games ?
any games in particular ? some chew up resources more than others
and where have you already tried for input ? saves re-inventing th ewheel as it where .......
I'll gamble that you are using windows XP, 80GB HDD, 512MB DDR RAM, system around 2 years old, and you want to upgrade to keep up with your mates ??
if so, then could you please say where your system is lagging ? not where your mates say ...
Generally, I would start from the Mo/Bo, and work out from there.
if the suggestions start to get too expensive, try and get a quote for a NEW complete system.
just to keep it in focus.........
so now I'm in my SIXTIES FFS
WTAF, how did that happen, so no more alterations to the sig, it will remain as is now

mavro, with the little that you have, and with the upgrades you want, it would almost be better to build a whole new computer... Start with the mobo and the CPU, everything else comes after that. For a real gaming machine, I would suggest a gig of ram, no less then pc3200... and what are the specs of your 160gb hard drive? By specs I mean RPM's, ata or Sata?
But first things first, get a motherboard, cpu, and a good PSU. Then add what you have to that (HDD, ram, etc), and then make the necessary upgrades like ram and a good HDD once you get the money...
I know I didn't really answer your question, but that's because I'm trying to set you on the right path to building a PC first...
***edit***
And an amount your willing to spend would be nice to know as well .

On my hardrive I have now idea. I have two of them. One is 120, and the other 40. The hardrive works fine, I am just not sure to buy the AMD X2 3800 or the AMD 4000. I just purchase kinston 1 gig ddr2 ram? Is that good, or should I stay with coisar? I need some feed back on what type of mobo and vga card i should purchase?

lets go back to the start :-
Do you have a working system now ?
could you give us the specs of that ? if we know where we are starting from, it is easier to give advice .......
As you want to upgrade your CPU / Mo-Bo / GPU then as the duck has said, it may be easier to just get an entire new system, and keep the first one for your [just started] network
you WILL need to consider a PSU [power supply unit] too, DO NOT go the cheap route here ....
go to a supplier site, and 'build' your dream box only, add the cost of KVM kit [keyboard / video / mouse] to the total, and see what you come up with, if this is in reach, then it might be the better deal ..........
so now I'm in my SIXTIES FFS
WTAF, how did that happen, so no more alterations to the sig, it will remain as is now

I haven't seen any games that need more than you already have...
Please note that there aren't many games that take advantage of 64bit (the only one I know is FarCry) and/or dual-core (maybe only quake3/4?)...
Why do you need to upgrade?
