Content management systems

Hey,

I'm about to start a complete rebuild of my Web Site & I'm looking for a content management system to use as the base. I've been playing around with PHP-Nuke to see what it can do, but have noticed it can become slow when using the forum, both on my test site and on other Web Sites.

The site will have heavy focus on the forum, but i'll also have an interview, review, download & photo gallery section which will be seperate from the forum.

Is there one available that comes highly recommended that i can have alook at?, what are your thoughts?

I take it that you are looking for a PHP based CMS?

Plone is worth a look at... very flexible and I have seen some great things done with it.

Ehm.. Plone is done in Python, not PHP..

But Zope/Plone is a good CMS

I meant to put mainly PHP based stuff but I put plone at the top of the list cos I've seen some exceptional stuff done with it.

You can compare content management systems by features, language, pricing, reviews, etc.

Here is one similar that allows you to try out open source software available from their site:

In my opinion and most people that I have worked with in the past there is no perfect solution when it comes to a CMS. It is either too bloated or too bare. I'm yet to find one that I'm completely satisfied with, without some real coding involved. Out of the box installs just don't do it for me.

With such a heavy emphasis on the forum, have you checked out to what you can do with most forums systems modded out nowadays? Might want to check out the plugins/hacks listings for vBulletin, phpBB, and Invision. I don't know what your level of experience is, but most mods are simplistic. For all the features that you listed above, I think it would a good second solution.
