For the life of me, I don't know why the industry is so worried about filesharing. It's got a lot of drawbacks:
1) It's slow and inconvenient, often taking days to download one movie. And running filesharing software, such as Kazaa or Limewire, really slows a network.
2) The quality is inconsistent and often poor, whether it's music or movies.
3) Downloads are rife with rogue viruses and spyware. When I needed a demo of an infected computer, I simply downloaded 4 porn movies and ran them. Two of the movies thoroughly infected my demo machine.
But I find filesharing, particularly torrents, to be wonderful for getting my hands on documentaries, especially foriegn ones, and other educational material. The movie industry is simply on a witchhunt and failing to adapt themselves to the new technologies out there.

At least some countries, notably France and Australia, have the good sense to begin to legalize filesharing (at least they're talking about it). Filesharing has no place at work though. It's an admin's nightmare, creating not only legal issues but also tons of network issues.
I'd only run anything torrents, and I'd download judiciously. Don't count on quality. Watch your back, you're liable to download viruses and spyware at some point. Torrents, though not anonymous, will give you more anonymity than other forms of filesharing.
As for the legality of filesharing, I'm with Thoreau: "Break the law."

Alright.... we know this guy must be brand new into the whole "torrenting" bonanza. I really see no big deal in being able to download movies...just don't burn them onto any other discs. You wouldn't want to get caught.
But my question is that will the RIAA take the extent to go over to your house and arresting you because you've only downloaded Spirited Away? lol.
I use Bitlord. It's blazin' fast. But I do get the occasional virus or trojan. What i'd say to do is just download something free like AdAware, and if your computer seems to be acting up all of a sudden and just clean out your pc.
Hey, It works for me. I'm down with that thoreau quote too.

. But I do get the occasional virus or trojan.
Its your machine....
are you sure you have got rid of them...and they didnt drop something else on your computer???.
I for one cannot risk having crap on any of my machines ..work or personal...and if I suspect anything...a format reinstall usually puts my mind at ease.

AFAIK..adaware does not clean out trojans and virii.....

Since they are sueing for $150,000 per copyright violation, last I heard this included first time violations, if you insist on stealling copyrighted material just make sure its worth it in the end...
Remeber, they have tons of money to throw at tracking people down and they have gone of the deep end...

Speak of the devil ...
We just got a notice from the RIAA about someone who has been sharing out music using AresWarez. The share has been active for just a few days. If it's a staffer, they get canned, of course, and turned over. If it is a student, they get turned over to the RIAA. We don't sheild or take the heat for anyone.
