I am assuming your normal setup works something like this:
dsl -> Router -> Desktop/Laptop
With the router working as a dhcp server if you use dhcp. If you are doing what I think you are doing, your current set up might look something like this:
dialup -> Laptop -> Router -> Desktop
The router will still be acting as a dhcp server and setting itself as the default gateway. This means that it is attempting to route all of the traffic from the desktop though the non-functional dsl link, instead of via the laptop as you seem to want. Depending on the settings of your laptop, it may also be attemping to use the router for internet, instead of the dialup link. Getting this to work is likely to be a pain in the ass, which you will need to undo when the dsl gets turned on. My advice would be to just use the single laptop on dialup for a few days until you get dsl working then go back to the old setup.
If everything looks perfect, then there is something you don\'t know
