If you have original WindowsXP CD then you can try this:

0: >!!!> you must have adminstrator rights in order to to that
1: ) you can also login as administrator (logout to welcomescreen and push "ctrl+alt+del" 2 times then write Administrator, by default no password is requid)
    2: ) clear dllcache "%windir%\system32\dllcache"
    3: ) find and delete msconfig.exe (cmd > del msconfig.exe /s)
4: ) use CD if windows will aks for CD to restore files, if CD is not oroginal or is in wrong version you may got some problems.
5: ) follow instructions in windows and reboot computer
6: ) do full scan of computer with your antivirus and anti-spyware, or download and run "SpyBot" and "ClamWin" if your not working or if you have no one.
7: ) go to windows update site and install updates or use windows update from control panel (check "download and notify when download is complete")

What Singh was trying to refer you to is this link: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

run that link in safemode with networking. It will scan your computer and remove any trojans (its a good application)

    then look into Start>run>services.msc

take a look in there for things that don't belong and remove them. Run Spybot Search[1] and destroy in safe mode, post a hijack this[2] log, and run adaware[3] scan.

hmmm... have you tried start>run>"sfc /scannow", I am not 100% sure, but that could quite possibly sort out your problem if something has played with your system files, let me know how it goes,

    Cheers,

You could also try rebooting in safe mode. seeing if the program runs from their, also since it would be convient run your AV of choice as well as spyware scanner of choice.

"sfc /scannow" may not work as it should cuz of that key

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
    SourcePath=

So make sure that "SourcePath" including path to your CD driver.
    t.ex.
    SourcePath=E:\

you also can get try this:
    ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit
download "cureit.exe" or "drweb-cureit.exe" (them are same)
and run, it can remove both spyware and viruses, but look in setting too...
that tool updates daily so you not need to update it, however that option also not working.... in that version....
