Yes, I tend to run most of my updates manually, I only "trust" a few.
@tt!tud3 , migik has a good point regarding SpyBot S&D.............you should start it from the "programs" menu (not desktop) and set it to start in advanced mode.
That will give you a lot more tools and options, and the ability to "immunise" your system against at least 1250 common malwares. Also use the tools to check stuff you have in BHOs (browser helper objects) and the like.
Also please get these, install, update, re-boot into safe mode and run them:
OK it is only a 14 day trial but you only lose the interactive protection. You can still update and run it as an "on demand" scanner
