Help, no email.
Hi there,
I just tried to send an email from my pc upstairs and it won't send. I can receive them ok, but can't send anything.
It is an windows xp running mozilla suite. I have not changed any of the settings, the only change has been to move it upstairs. and I am not aware of having sent one since from up there.
My laptop works fine, so it is not the network here either I don't think
any ideas??

Ok, I use Mozilla,
I have not changed any settings on this bit of software since I set it up, and it has been running fine for well over 7 months.
All that has happened, is that I have moved my computer upstairs in my house, and have had a few issues with the wireless hub. I was not able to get on line without a fight. Now I can get on line, and I can receive emails, but can no longer send them out.
What other info can I give, as once set up, I don't tend to fiddle, so I don't know what else can be done.
Will uninstalling and reinstalling Mozilla clear this problem up.?

If it helps, all settings for mozilla are identical on my desktop as they are for my Laptop. My laptop has no problems sending emails, but the desktop won't send them.

I can't say I completely understand, but adding politics and humour will dumb down my thread, so I will have to post another one.
well I spose who needs email these days.
Ah, your right Nihil, I'm gonna change my name, and throw my pc in the river, and dress how my mum told me to and be nice to women and stop getting laid and oh, just everything.
What ever Tony wants I'll do, he is the greatest, gee, he can play guitar......
In the meantime, does anyone have any advice for getting my email client working again?

Can you run packet captures inside and outside you firewall?
Compare what you see inside and outside and see if there is a diff... You don't need to know what you are looking at, just that there is a diff. If there is then your firewall may be causing your issue.

FI don't know how to run packet captures, is that like pinging an ip address?
I have the error message here that I get when I try to send from this pc.
An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: <Email address>: Recipient address rejected: Relay access denied. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again.
Now i have tried that with a portable email client that I have on my USB thumb, to the same addresses, it goes through on my laptop, but not on problem child 1.
As I write this, I notice a number of timing out warnings popping up asking to continue waiting or not, these say this:
avast! Connection timeout
Internet connection timeout elapsed. Continue waiting?
(mozilla.exe -> smtp.nildram.co.uk:25)
So either avast or my zonealarm seems to be preventing mozilla smtp thingy from connecting, yet on the firewall, both should be free to come and go as they please
Does this gice any more info
Much fun
