network set as Domain or Workgroup ?

if you are on a workgroup, and you have shared the file ?
    that SHOULD be it

I have something like this every now and then
I set a static IP and then I map to the \\IP\shared file

for some reason that works ??

    [edit]
just seen XP Home, so it's a workgroup, as Home doesn't support Domain access

Ok well it actually was an winxp pro sorry for that, I was told it was a home. Ok I would like to thank every one for posting and I would also like to explain what was wrong so you dont feel like you wasted your time posting. Well here is what happened my Boss the net admin/ had no one else to run the network so picked him cuz he thinks he knows what he is doing needed one of the accounting computers to have access to a file on his machine so he shared it. Now you could see the share in my network places, map it but you could not open it, he also had another file shared which you could open and look at fine. So I told him that I think he messed up the config on the folder and it should be no problem to fix but(since he knows what he is doing so well) he told me thats impossible and that he will check, he tells me he checked twice and nothing is wrong with the config so I go and spend about 20 min reading up on windows shares to find nothing. any way he finany leaves his office so i quickly jump on his comp and look at the config of the share and their was the problem he had it shared but in the security tab he only gave access to him self so no one else could use the share. Well thats it a really simple problem maid not so simple.

    He's just protesting.

Even if he behaves himself, he gets banned automatically.
