    Viruses on linux?

    hi
    are there any viruses in linux? and are they dangerous, even when ran by user? And how can i protect myself from them?

    There are virii in Linux


    Don't run as root unless you need too

    I've never seen one in the last 2 years of using it.

    You'll see a Windows update that doesn't need a reboot before you would a Linux virii.

    They are rare as crap, but not impossible, but you need to screw up a little more to actually find one.

    Yes, there are.. http://vil.nai.com and search for linux..

    Just as dangerous as any other virus for any other OS... Do note that eventhough it might need some privileges to get it started the next time your box reboots, it doesn't need any privileges to be a nuisance to the rest of the Internet.. Just like you don't need to be root to email someone, so does a virus/worm..
    And how can i protect myself from them?
    Don't run anything from untrusted sources and don't think "I'm running Linux so I'm safe"...
