    I Need Help!

Hyothetically, lets say that you changed the boot option to safe mode using msconfig. But you didn't think abot the fact that the computer is on a client-host network and your password won't let you get into safe mode. So everytime you boot, you are staring at safe mode with the logon that won't get you in (therefore you can't take it off the safe mode boot). I dont know if the tech doesn't want to give out the admin password, or what, but is there away around this? To get it into anything to change it back to a normal boot? Is this making any sense?

    Now this is funny...

Did we mess up a work computer because you wanted to do something the admin didn't want you to?

I'd suggest that you walk down to his office with a case of Fosters offered gently in front of you and ask him if there is any way he could help you out of this rather embarrassing situation... With luck the single case will do the business... If he asks for three, he's an ass....

Now would be a good time to call your broker and purchase some stock in Fosters

Hmmm... While the computer is booting you should still be able to tap F8 and select boot windows normally... Then fix whatever you set in msconfig...

Hitting F8 Should definitely work I think! If for some reason it doesn't (and I can't think of why) You can create a knoppix live boot disk. I'm not sure what kind of time frame you are on, but if you did that (you can download it very quickly) and used something like deep burner to burn it into a bootable cd-rom you could get into your hard drive and censor any remaining incriminating evidence before you fetch your techie for help.
    Hope that helps,
    Cheers.

    Hi Paine,

Another possibility is if you can get into the BIOS set up. That would be Esc, F1, Delete, F10(Compaq) etc. You may then have boot options. If so change the "fast boot" to "off" and tell it to give you the boot options (screen).

I hope the readers don't take your advice Anglachel17 or condone any such activity It is really irresponsible on your part to even suggest it. Portable media booting, on that setup? You must be kidding.

It is most appropriate that users be right up front with the Admin. Surely you don't beleive he/she came in yesterday's mail and wouldn't be able to discover what you have done.

    cheers

Find a password remover and remove the password on the admin account. I have a password remover disk at my office, I got it from a freind and it basically is linux. Dont know where he got it from but it definently does the job. Once the admin account password is blanked out you can get into safe mode and change it back.
