    Copying updates

I would like to format my hardrive however I cannot update to latest updates so easily. My updates are fully updated, where are the install files for the updates stored and how do I get them onto CD.

    Thanks guys.

    Hi, these links might help:

    http://windowsxp.mvps.org/saveupdates.htm
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913086

The first move is to make sure that you apply the latest service pack

    Good luck!

EDIT: Forgot to mention, get this:

    http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

It will tell you of any that have failed to install properly

    Howdy.

You could also use the neowin autopatcher. You can download all the service packs etc and burn them onto a CD then use them once youv'e completed the windows installation..

Well if you check his profile you will see Windows Xp along with Mandrake, so it's 50-50, so any advice Windows or *nix would apply, and he can take whichever?

Just remember to get your AV up and running and updated with the latest definitions right after you connect to the net.(activate your firewall or get a router, if you don't allready have one)

    Hey gore ,

I know that he has WinXP from previous posts, although you do have a point, he might be dual booting?

Anyways, shame on you! there are two dead giveaways:

    1. Wants to reformat the drive/partition
    2. Worried about loads of updates and patches

Now that doesn't sound typical of a Linux installation to me?

Hey Cider are you dual booting mate?.............also why do you want to do this?

    Cheers

People normally specify when they are using Linux - as if they dont most people will presume they are using Windows.

Hey Nihil I am dual booting - but dont really use Mandrake anymore. I want to do this because I just bought a whole new comp and the system might start giving problems if I dont format. The hardware might create bluescreens, errors. So starting from fresh with new hardware (no other previous installed motherboard etc) will clean these problems up. I just downloaded that autopatcher that someone recommended, thanks . Is the autopatacher(mar 2006 version) all that I need or do I more programs etc.

The autopatcher that you've got should be good, just burn the .iso to CDr and use it once you have finished the windows installation.
And remember to read the instruction's..

With that autopatcher - does it have all the updates within it. OR does it still download them. I know this is a noobie question but can someone explain how this proggie works.

    Howdy.

The autopatcher will install majority of the updates that have been released.. You will find that you will most likely need to run update only twice to get any new patches that have been released within the last few days etc.

Here is what is included with the (mar 2006 version) autopatcher that you are talking about..
