Hi,
What you might want to do is try a "Live Linux CD" which is basically a Linux distribution which runs from your cd drive. That way you can try out Linux and get a feel for it without having to install it. If you do that, be aware it will run more slowly than if it were installed on your hard drive. You might want to try Knoppix, but a Google search will locate some other Live Cd options. Installing Linux will entail dealing with some other issues, particularly if you want to keep also Windows on your laptop.
Why don't you try that first, see how you like it, come back and tell us what you want to do? I'm sure I and some of the other Linux users here would have some more helpful advice.

If you are absolutely new to computers, the easiest way
would be to get a friend help you. Otherwise, I would advise
downloading SLAX . You download an ISO
file, burn it to a cd. When you boot this cd, it temporarily runs
Linux on your computer without installing it. If you already
have internet service, and are connected, there's a good
chance it will automatically recognize this and you can surf
the net. It is a good way to test drive Linux before you
install. Installing is more complicated, and usually involves
removing Windows from your computer, along with all
your existing data (although not strictly necessary in all
cases)
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.

Euhmm ...what ?? ...
Ok ...It seems you are a littlebit interested in computers, otherwise you wouldn't be on AO (unless you'" a troll )... So how come you never saw "this" OS called Linux.
Anyway ...cutting this answer short, as it has been asked "SO" many time in "SO" many alterations ...
You could start by reading THIS
Then you could use THIS to find out even more.
Then you could download, burn and use one of THESE they are Linux Live CD's ...so you can run them from the CD you burned..this way nothing needs to be installed or altered on your PC.
Start with that ...It will teach you alot about Linux ...Then if you have more specific questions you can always come back and ask them
This is just friendly information ... but these questions and lots like em, have been asked before ..many times ...just use the search function of AO.
Oh btw ..."offcourse" Linux can go on the internet

In KDE there should be a tool called "Ksnapshot" that you can use to take screenshots
.C.
