    HijackThis log 4.1.06

    My sister's computer has recently been having a ton of spyware problems lately; I'm not sure how something got past it, since I check it religiously with Sbybot, but what can you do?

    I downloaded HijackThis and am currently googling the .exe files to see if they are malicious. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Just glancing throught that quickly you seem to have a lot of search bars installed! You even have 4 in your trusted zone - if these are installed on purpose they obviously are not a problem. However if they are not...you may wanna delete them?

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {4ABF810A-F11D-4169-9D5F-7D274F2270A1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmonwv.dll (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Java - {4ABF810A-F11D-4169-9D5F-7D274F2270A1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmonwv.dll (file missing)
    dmonwv.dll is a known malware application - which as says here is missing - which is good - but something is still there looking for it.
    O2 - BHO: Yvakt Class - {98B9F201-C701-41F1-B338-7E5E0E6D768F} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ejrwx8drl.dll (file missing)
    Same score as the ones above - they may just be left over from the infections you have already got rid of.
    It would be worth running a registry cleaner -ccleaner is a good one
    Have you ran all your normal spyware scans etc - I see you have spybot installed, is it updated?
    Hi
    First, I recommend you clear out your temp files, with CCLeaner
    Then go to Trend Micro Housecall let it scan your PC then follow the instructions.
    You can download this tool as well...
    Stinger
    Then I would get Startupcontrol panel and stop some of those startups.
    Luck..
    You might want to run it through http://www.hijackthis.de to narrow down what you need to check. Google anything it throws up as bad before you remove it though. So far I don't think I have had any false posatives (not sure about negatives).
    Also, as Nokia said, is Spybot fully updated?
    Yes, Spybot is regulary updated; whenever it loads, it downloads any availble updates.
    I have also used Spybot to stop programs from loading on startup, and the TeaTimer keeps an active watch on my settings.
    I use RegSeeker to clean out the registry whenever I delete programs.
    Although this is a very old computer and I've had to add RAM to keep it up, it's our only computer for the moment, and since I'm the only one that actually has some knowledge of computers in the family, I get blamed whenever there are problems. Ugh. Thank you for the suggestions; I'll check out those programs you mentioned.
    I can only wait until I migrate to Linux on the computer I'm currently building... then I won't have to deal with these annoyances.
    I have been talking with Doppy, and he is about to do a tutorial on hardening IE, please check it out when he posts it. It will cover XP and IE 6 which is current. I have promised him the bits that relate to Win 2000, where they are different.
    In the meantime you might like to check this site out:
    http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=products
    Scroll down a bit for the free stuff, I recommend "RegistryProt" for a start
    Also, please consider using Firefox with the Addblock and scriptblock plug ins................it can help protect the un-initiated from themselves...............it is not easy trying to educate those who do not wish to learn..................
    Good Luck
