    Question intrusion attempt through AIM

I logged on to AIM today, and after about a second, my firewall told me that an intrusion attempt called "ICC Profile TagData Overflow" was trying to hit my computer. This has occurred a couple of times, and as a newbie, I am wondering what it means and how dangerous it is.

Did you google it? Try a combo of keywords, including your firewall app. Let us know what you find.

Looks like the .wmf exploit from last month. Are you patched (Windows updates)? Run your updates if you haven't.

    Hello mate!

If you have service pack one or 2 (XP) you can go here for the relevant update:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

If you want to read a litle more about what it is that was unpatched on your system, the symantec web site has a pretty good description of what the vulnerability is:
    http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/att...gs/s21196.html

As has been suggested buddy, just run an update and you should be ok!

I went and got the stuff from Microsoft update, and I haven't had any more issues with this particular exploit. Thanks for the advice and help

Yeah, but based on the information in your other thread, you already have something you don't want on your system. Safe Mode is your friend. Reboot, run some scans and get HiJackThis.

My wife had some hacking her computer as a remote computer user.Seen him opening windows and clicking all over the place...all the while he said he was not,and that was through a chat program. I think it was ICQ years ago. Make sure you don't have an auto except message for anyone. Allow connection with your, "authorization", only in your setting.
