Thanks for your responses. That news posting seems to explain what's been occuring on my machine then, although it's been happening for a couple of days, so I wouldn't call the broken certificate problem 'brief'! Yesterday, I managed to locate a contact email address on the French National Gendarmerie website about this, so I'll see if they get back to me as well. Anyway, thanks again.

Presumably they're both hosted in the same datacentre, and the provider is using the same SSL accelerator / NAT / gateway front-end system for both sites.

Some admin problem caused it to briefly present this other certificate, even though the site had not been compromised
