Unhappy need to install windows XP but getting error

    Hi all,

I have win 2k in my Laptop which got currupted.
I am trying to install Win XP now.
I changed my file system to ntfs for c: and d:
D: is now changed back to FAT32 after format.

When I try to boot via CD (bootable CD for windows XP), it gives me following error:

The file ntfs.sys caused an unexpected error (32768) at on line 5091 in d:\ xpclient\base\boot\setup\setup.c.

What to do? I am totally confused.

    Please help.

    Riya

I am sorry my dear, but I do not understand?.....................I am aware that some craptop vendors will ship Windows 2000 pre-installed with a FAT32 file system, but as you are going to XP, why not all NTFS?

    Howdy.

check your partitions, restart and after the BIOS F8 and try to get to a command prompt, then once there.
    c:>fdisk

and just do a quick check to make sure the partitions aren't screwy..

    Nihil,

I tried installing on NTFS (C and D drives) but same error was appearing...

I thought it might be coz i changed them to NTFS...

I am unable to change C: to FAT32 now without formatting.

But why did you change them to FAT32 for.?
just put your winxp disc in, after you press F8 in the installer to accept the agreement, it should give you the setup to configure your disc drives.
once there delete your partitions then recreate then, then the next screen should ask you to format your new drive, just do a quick format of NTFS.!!!

then it should automagically start installing winXP

    cheers

    hi f2B,
the problem lies here only, when i am booting with CD, I am unable to reach till agreement.
I get this error when the files are loading... it gives error while loading the FAT filesystem.

I tried searching for it in google, but couldn't find anything.

Ok, so this is the setup just so i'm clear on this.!
    c:\ = NTFS file system
D:\ = Fat32 File system, as it reverted to this after you restarted.

Ok so now you are trying to convert drive C:\ back to FAT file system..

Ok are you able to disconnect drive D:\ ? if you can disconnect it remove power and ide cable.
then reboot make sure that boot from CD is enable in the BIOS.!
save and quit, and watch the screen for Boot from cd/DVD? make sure you press a button to enable that option.

see if you can get up to the license agreement
