    IP Query

    Please enlighten me on the difference between a static and a dynamic IP address

    Firstly, unless there is a "hidden" reason for placing this in the IDS forum it should probably be moved.

    Static and dynamic addresses are exactly that... either static or dynamic. A static address never changes and is usually assigned at the computer itself though it could be made static by adding a reservation for the MAC address at the DHCP server. DHCP is Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol and is used to assign IP addresses to computers as they request them which is usually at start up... Thus these IP's are dynamic.
