Software Engineer VS Network Engineer

I have observed here in my part of the world that Software guys (not mentioning gals here as here we hardly find a girl who could compete in this field) get pair more than those who are in Network side......

Why this Discrimination? I mean even though people here have great experience or rather i would say more experience in network still won't get paid to what a programmer/developer (software).

One more thing network person are also supposed to handle the system administration things too. Does this thing exist in your part or not?

There is more demand for software engineers, and they can generally be charged out at a higher rate.

Also there is a lot more diversity in software which increases the competition and pushes the price up. Don't forget all the guys programming embedded systems, fly by wire, weapons of mass destruction and so on.

One more thing network person are also supposed to handle the system administration things too. Does this thing exist in your part or not?

Yes, unless the network people are very specialised and there is another section looking after the more day to day activities of infrastructure support.

Sometimes problems or flaws by them are to be covered by network people. What about female do you guys have talented female programmers sort of people there..... I mean few months back we posted Job for Software Engineers having experience in C Sharp..... and i was surprised that among 80 or more application a female was there too. But sadly my Senior Manager didn't bother to short list her..... May be because he knows me ....

well what i have seen here is the shortage of highly skilled network engineers. The ones are also experts in doing system administration but still they are paid very much less than that of fresh graduated software engineer. What i have generally observed here is that people regard networks/system administration very easy, they have a concept that if one thing is running fine then it will continue to run as it is for ever, which is totally wrong. I was hired as a network security engineer at a small company but with the passage of time my employer entrusted me with the network/system administration and programming ( a full time coding project) and i always came to his expectations, still i have to admit that i am underpayed as compared to a fresh graduate software engineer. Interestingly, i have majors in software engineering but i chose networks and infosec as a career. So, i still believe that network professionals are paid less compared to software engineers.
