    Java uninstallation help

    Greeting's

Okay I had problems with java and it wouldn't uninstall the normal way. So i deleted all the files in %root% drive and in my own username folder and from other users folders. I ran registry cleaning tools and cleaned out all problems it found. I then searched the registry for any entry with java in it and deleted them too. But still i cannot install java because it still shows up in Add/Remove and in control panel. Although when I try to start it from control panel it gives and error of reg key missing. I tried deleting the uninstall key using hijackthis and Spy.bot but they don't show up the keys.

I had to take all these steps out of pure desperation because java didnt work at all. If anyone has any idea what I can do please tell me. I searched through java.com but nothing helpful there.

Yes, I have gone through both of those page's and they offer no help.

As of now there is an Icon of java in control panel and an entry in add/remove program's but nothing more. IN ADD?REMOVE PROGRAMS IT DOES NOT GIVE ME AN OPTION OF REMOVE.

Thanks for the prompt reply though.

    You’ve corrupted the uninstall files...

To cleanly remove it from the system ... install it again and then uninstall cleanly

    (Do it in safe mode)

Never try to remove programs manually in any environment (especialy propriatery) unless you are know EXACTLY what you're doing

Removing Invalid Entries in the Add/Remove Programs Tool

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310750/en-us

unhappy has a good suggestion...if you can reinstall.....then use the uninstaller

Remember too that when editing the reg...you have to restart for changes to take affect

    Also check your explorer plugins???

(I guess hijack this would do that though )

Thank you very much guys for the help. But there is no java entry in the

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall, key i dont know why. I think thats why it didnt show up in Hijackthis and Spy.bot.

I'll be going offline to try and install it in safe mode. Lets hope it works out.

morganlefay : I am running windows xp home. I tried both of the links but they dont offer much help anyway here is the exact error message :

You already have this version of JRE installed. Please uninstall the product through add/remove utility before reinstalling

    EDIT>
    do one thing
go to registry using REGEDIT from command Prompt

    then Browse to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER --> JavaSoft (Delete This folder)
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE--> JavaSoft (Delete This folder)

now restart your system and remove all the java software files(already installed ) in your system manually and try installing the java again it will install the fresh copy...

Okay guys I did all i can. Here is again everything that I have done to install java (or atleast uninstall it)

    1. Deleted every reg entry with java word in it.

    2. Deleted all the files on the %root% drive, including user folder's

    3. Cleaned up the registry with WinAso registry cleaner.

    4. Search the entire registry and the hard disk for "JavaSoft" and "Java". While registry was clean system had some java files which I have deleted.

I'm going to restart now and see if it works.

Thank you very much to everyone for helping
