    Right!

I won't mess about and I won't pull any punches:

    "BoyAlley: not another Twink site"

If you don't know what a "Twink" is, I am sure that JP will be delighted to enlighten you in private

Perhaps outlawing gay pornographers wouldn't be a bad start?..............otherwise we seem to have the philosophy: "I can drive along the sidewalk, it is up to you to jump out of the way"

Leave it alone JP...........you do not, and never have had, the street cred.
If you cannot do someone any good: don't do them any harm....
As long as you did this to one of these, the least of my little ones............you did it unto Me.

nihil: I'm not sure I follow you (which is sad, usually I do..). Care to re-iterate?

What exactly do you mean by:

Leave it alone JP...........you do not, and never have had, the street cred.
    and

Perhaps outlawing gay pornographers wouldn't be a bad start?..............otherwise we seem to have the philosophy: "I can drive along the sidewalk, it is up to you to jump out of the way"
I semi-understand, but if you can re-iterate that would be great. Thanks old friend..

You mean it's not a site about Toy Pianos?

    http://www.twink.net/

Well now the original thread subject changes in nature from a discussion about freedom of expression, to an online "Lobbying Effort" by a provider of Adult Ghey videos.

Let's see if I can change the course of this sinking ship...

    1) Agreed. Anytime you see a person doing something in the name of children, you can be damn sure that it's not to benefit children at all. Period.

    2) Complaining that people here refuse to help soccer moms or anyone else who posts here is a bit arrogant. This place is a revolving door of questions and answers to all. Of course it's not perfect but I can't think of a single site that is.

    3) Even if you have a twinkie site, elephant porn or anything else that offends me or others is completely irrelevant. U.S. law does not give you the right to not be offended. All of see things everyday that we don't like or don't agree with. That said, I may disagree with you (but in actuality I don’t), I would die defending your right to disagree with me.

    4) Censorship is never the answer. Socialist societies have shown how this concept is applied. I'd much rather live here where I can do and say what I want. Of course I will see things that I don't like or don't agree with but that's part of the deal folks. You can't have it both ways.

    5) Attacking JP or anyone else is never going to accomplish a damn thing. He may come off with an "I'm better than you" feel to his posts but read them for what they're saying, not how you believe the tone of the post is written. It is clear that adult sites are a (pardon the pun) hot topic for JP. This makes sense because he has vested interests in that business. I too am passionate when it comes to things I have vested interests in.

    6) Mulling over the legacy issues with this site (APs, mods, etc) isn't going to help a damn thing. Remember that commercial with 5 people standing next to a garbage can pointing at the litter and saying how bad it is then one guy just picks it up and throws it away? Well even if you don't remember, the point is do something. How about instead of pointing at the same problems that existed while you were still the owner, how about making suggestions on how to solve the issues.

Anyway, let the real discussion continue.

    Ah! I finally understand

Anyway, let the real discussion continue.
You mean: "Is ghey pr0n an acceptable occupation in the IT community"?

Is this in any way security related? (federal agents are not allowed to respond to that one)

Should governments be expected to legislate against ghey pr0n............ or any pr0n for that matter?

Is this what AO is about, or should be about?

Perhaps we should revert to the Wild West?........... You all carry a gun, and enforce your own version of law? I tend to prefer "society" as it goes.

    Ack! Phtt!

We live in a society where there's one valuable (regardless of what socialists, activists and everyone else will tell you) and it's money... Until we have true communism, our skill sets are valuable to us for a single reason.. to make us money... if we can't generate income, then we have no real use in this world... When it comes to providing for our families, without money we can't do that... I had to pay for my education, how I want that education to pay me back and to help pay my debts back.
You're right. And this is a good thing. The pressure on us to earn a living
teaches us not to waste time and effort. I can understand if you don't
want to walk some moron through some procedure yet again, and have
truly more important things claiming your time. Actually time is the one
resource that, once wasted, cannot be bought back. That said, I still hope
you can find some personal reward in occasionally writing a tutorial
for newbs and home users. A healthier net affects you too.
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.

So the freedom of adults to express themselves should be limited to thoughts, ideas, and expressions that are appropriate for the least common denominator of our society, aka a 10 year old child?
You know, JP, there's a difference between content filtering and censorship. Content filtering is already widely used in the media. Has been for years. Cable TV companies have filters for adult content. There's a movie rating system in place since the late 60's that was implemented specifically to protect children. AOL's had content filtering for years now, as ineffective as it may be. It's widely implemented on corporate networks. And it's coming to the rest of the internet. So what?

Frankly, your "twink" site wouldn't cut it in my house. I'm not challenging your right to publish such a site. But you have no right to express yourself as such in my home or my business. The fact is, a 10-year-old child is NOT the least common denominator is our society. You are!

It's funny how the internet has its own standards (porn and taxes, for instance). I'm sure the money's good doing what you're doing. But you could've done something with your life...

Ok, I read the title of this thread and wondered what it was all about.

Then I stepped in and found out, hehe...

This site has been more productive than a lot of other sites I've found in regards to tutorials, education, security, and a wide variety of anything else "IT"-related. I've found answers, I've asked questions, and I've been able to be part of a community that's definitely a step above those that "don't have a clue".

I don't have any sympathy for anyone who doesn't make an effort to understand something, anything. What happened to trying to figure something out for yourself? I remember getting in trouble because I wouldn't try to work a problem out, constantly being asked "What have you done so far" and hence, if I said "Nothing", I'd get nothing out of it. Why should I necessarily go out of my way to educate someone *again* over something that can be easily figured out with the help of countless tutorials or in forums that have described it infinitely better than I ever could? There are people who think I'm snooty and have "my nose in the air" because "it comes so easy to you"... Well, the wakeup call is "I worked damned hard to make it look easy". I read voraciously and I don't ask questions unless I've exhausted all other avenues. You don't learn UNIX from the ground up unless you really have ambition and fortunately for me, I've applied that across the board in everything I do. It's amazing what a little bit of reading can do and that's where gross majority of people fail. It seems the people that I run into have the mentality of "I've graduated high school/college and moved out and nobody can tell me what to do". I know people with master degrees who have the basic education of a 12 year old and get mad when their lack of education is questioned. It's one reason why someone's 14 year old knows more than their parents, especially in consideration of a home computer. And then it's a question as to how the kid is visiting porn or other "questionable" content? Let's see...in one corner we have people that think they don't have time for "that computer crap" and in the other corner we have kids who just got handed a shiny play toy that's been integrated into everyone's daily life. Who's going to win? By the time the parents actually try to prevent anything, their kids are so far ahead of them, it's not even funny.

The whole issue of parenting is questionable, at best. Back when I was getting on the internet (those days of Prodigy, era 1995), my parents knew everywhere I went and everything I did. If I spent more than 10 minutes in the garage not doing a known task, my dad was out there wondering what I was working on (remember those Columbine kids breaking glass bottles in the garage for bombs and the parents didn't know?). Now, "parents" are labeled by title only. I don't have kids, and I certainly dismay my fiance by stating that I wouldn't want any given what I witness every day. Sure, there's the good ones out there but they're cast to the side by the literal thousands that ignore and shove money at their kids. I know teenagers (like, 13) that have everything in their room and they can't tell me the last time their parents really did anything with them. It's sad when a unix admin like me spends more time with someone's kid than they do. Some kids really want to learn but given idle time, which is the devil's playground, they're surrounded by peer pressure and without a strong positive influence, they go down the interstate of "bad things". For them, I try to help out as much as possible...to try to divert them from ending up a flunky in life because they dropped out of HS or didn't finish college or got pregnant at 17 or got someone pregnant at 17, etc...

This next statement is for TH13, because I've read his whole "trials and tribulations" in adopting a kid. What kills me is how honest hard-working down-to-earth people like he and his significant other have to go through all that crap for adoption when there's absolutely nothing preventing some random person from impregnanting 5 girls or some random girl from having 5 kids when neither can afford the upraising of said kids. That's a failing point right there. Maybe someday, parents as a whole will wake up and say "Damn, where've we been?" and start doing things that are now considered "old school". It starts with them, and when kids see a positive influence that's not going to tolerate their crap, they can be directed accordingly. For those kids who truly think they know better, don't worry...the train of "Real Life" will be run on them. The school of Hard Knocks is now open!

Bleh, I've rambled on too much...but I'll end it with this. Parents start out with the world, an untarnished mind that's eager to learn. Those are the years when good parenting is absolutely needed for the guided direction of that kid. And these same parents are also responsible for adapting to the changing environment that surrounds them. Basic knowledge encompasses us all. It just sucks that some people simply refuse to learn.

Funny thing is, I was a rotten kid growing up (skipped 9 days STRAIGHT in 7th grade, woot!) and I absolutely can't stand kids.
We the willing, led by the unknowing, have been doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much with so little for so long that we are now qualified to do just about anything with almost nothing.

So Jp sold he's Baby AntiOnline, to fund This .?...

the dates for the sale, and the registering of the domain sync in to the same time frame, so i guess we all now know why he was willing to offload this place so eagerly then..
