Databases were/are my main interest (and strength). Lucky you if you end up working in that field!
The channel is fine .... g4yn3ss and pr0n talk I can live with (IRC is not for the faint hearted). Maybe I'm just beyond all this kill/ban evasion stuff. I part own a channel on qnet and in all the time I've run it (at times single handed), I don't think I banned anyone at all! +m is so much more humiliating and in the event of a botnet attack, +r and +i/+k work a lot better.
I still much prefer IRC to MSN/AIM/Yahoo mainly due to the more relaxed atmosphere and mentality of the people you chat to. I've learned so much from IRC and it's instant help - priceless!

We're not a large server, but somehow, we attract BotNet attacks (it might have something to do with being on the mIRC server list), and in most events, g/z-lines work the best ;-), anyways, DefCon protects us well most of the time anyways. I've had a chit-chat with the oper that did it, and they meant no harm, they said they have nothing against AO or you, and it was only meant in a joke way (we have a weird sense of humor), and nothing else.
:-), time for a Lost break in my studying!

Thanks MicroBurn ... I realise it was only a joke and I take no offense at all. Heck, I'd been there about 2 minutes, so it can't have been anything personal! I don't even want to know who did it.
Anyway, I'm happy to stick around in the channel it seems lively with plenty of chat. Botnets (or the people who think they're clever for running them) are a total pain. Qnet suffers quite a bit and it's so unnecessary because it achieves exactly nothing. I can see their "use" to send spam or harvest confidential details from compromised PCs, but to part/join an irc channel in such rapid succession that nobody else can get a word in ..... pointless.
