    email question

    Hey there,

I've got a small question about emails.

Is it possible to receive one and the same email on multiple computers?

    example:
    Comp 1 send an email.
comp 2 receives the email and opens it,
but it should have been on comp 3.
(comp 2 and 3 have the same email accounts)

Now ofcourse comp2 can resend the email to itself so later he can open it on comp3
But let say the person forgot to do that and he needs the email on comp 3.

Is there a command to trigger the mailserver to send a specific email again?

I hope you understand what i mean.
    TIA

What enviroment are you talking about?

As in - on a network with an exchange server, at home with an ISP email account or web based email (Gmail, Hotmail etc)

If your mail is on the server you can read it as many times you like from wherever you like. If you copy it the same applies. If you download it then you cannot, although it will still be on the server.

A lot depends on what systems you have and how they are set up.

It might be possible to send downloaded mail to the "garbage file", in which case you could reinstate it. The commands will depend on your mail server and client.

Nokia / Nihil, It would be on 3 homecomputer with xp on it.
And the email is an isp account, so the email will be downloaded.
unfortunatly i can't tell you anything about the mail server from the isp.

I guess it's not possible for simple regular homecomps.
But i will look a a bit further if i can find anything about it.

Thanks for the help so far.

    Hi,

I think that your first move should be to check the options that the ISP's mail server gives you. There may be some sort of copy or "save as" option, rather than a straight download.

Then look at the mail client you are using. My ISP allows me to use their client and read mail online, in which case the mail remains on the server with a status of "read". Otherwise I can download the messages into my own client (Outlook or whatever) and they disappear from sight on the server.

Another alternative would be to set up a mail server on one of your PCs, in which case you should be able to recover the downloaded messages.

Another solution would be to allow mail file sharing between the three machines over a local network.

If you use POP3 (a 'regular' email protocol) to collect the mail using Outlook (or other email clients) there's an account option to "Leave mail on the server"..
