    Thunderbird problem

Hi guys, long time no post. I have a little problem here, I downloaded and installed the latest patch of thunderbird, and now, it won't connect, I just get the message, "connection was refused".

I tried to download Mozilla suite, to go back to that, and that won't connect to the internet at all. Firefox works though.

Am I missing something here? Nothing has changed, no settings change, and I am connected to my own network, not someone elses.

    Any ideas?

    Yours

    Hi JonnyFrond

You didn't mention it..so I'll ask, are your account settings configured to your ISP...POP3/SMTP and the password..?

are you using a Proxy? If yes then check the settings etc..

Also try giving your modem/router a reset and see if that helps..

Try renaming the setting directory and creating an empty one.

Thunderbird will then prompt for account setup again.

If you can then connect, the problem will be in your old settings, if not it's more fundemental and I'd suggest checking out the thunderbird mailing lists.

    Linux:
    Code:
    cd ~
    mv .thunderbird broken_thunderbird
    thunderbird
    Setup ac****s & test.

    To put things back:
    Code:
    cd ~
    mv .thunderbird newly_created_thunderbird
    mv old_thunderbird .thunderbird
If it's working you can now compare the contents of ~/.thunderbird and ~/newly_created_thuderbird for problems.

Note most of the setting live within a subdirectory that's got a load of random characters in it. Mine is called:

    ~/.thunderbird/k8f117km.default

My first guess would be to remove any user.js file from the one that isn't working.

    It is exactly like this

    I read my emails.

I got a prompt to download updates for thunder bird

I now could not send or receive emails.

That is it, I have been getting my emails here for over a year now.

P.S. I have 4 email accounts going through this, how come all 4 won't connect. I can get to them via the web, but that is a pain, becausse I can't remember the passwords with out a hunt. I think there is something seriously wrong with the last update, has anyone else had this?

    Hi Jonnyfrond

Try using Outlook Express, if you can access your mail through this then you may need to uninstall Thunderbird "Completely" and reinstall.

By Completely I mean all folders that pertain to Thunderbird, it sounds like you may have a corrupted profile.

Have you tried doing any of the things I suggested?
