    Free webhosting question

    Does anyone know / uses "hacker" friendly free web hosting. I'm so tired of stupid geocities file manager.

    They have a few restrictions but other then that there not to bad. .php MySql. FTP uploading just to name a few goodies..

    then just go to http://www.freedomain.co.nr and get yourself a short name redirectory.

    for instance instead of having a long url to remember. http://yoursitename.coconia.net

    once you have signed up to the .co.nr it will be http://yoursitename.co.nr and all they require is for you to put a small .gif banner on the front page of your site that links back to them.

    cheers

    you could also set up your own server and host it off your internet connection using dynadns or no-ip.com.

    And if he uses a windows box he can simply download phpdev423 and have it all instantly setup in one go.

    http://www.firepages.com.au/phpdev41.htm

    phpdev423 Is the current release
    Whats in it ?

    * apache 1.3.27
    * php4.2.3
    * MySQL4
    * phpmyadmin 2.3.2
    * Invision Board
    * PhpWebsite

    What else ?

    * Apache is mod_perl (as an optional download) ready (1.27 + 5.6.1)
    * PHP-GTK controller on its way
    * Simple FTP server (Cerebus)
    * PHP 4.3.0 upgrade av
    When you run the setup file, it will automagically set everything up, and there is minimal configuration as it's all done in the setup.

    And all you need to do is configure your firewall setting, and you've got a fully functional website..

    very_unhappy, you have issues and the servers I have used with dynadns were apache running on top of xp, perfect debian sarge, and perfect fedora core4.

    front2back, phpdev423 looks interesting, I think I might set it up on one of my spare boxes and play around with it. I havent come across a windows webserver package similiar. If it runs as easly as it sounds i'll be passing it on to people when their afraid to run a linux server.
