Wireless Network configuration

I am very new for configuring wireless network.
I have not any environment to configure it practically. But after two days, i have to go for an interview. I think they will tell me to configure wireless network(802.11a/b). I have a good knowledge on these things.
Is there any posibility to configure it virtually or any simulator for configuring wireless network

I don't know of any. You can try AdvenNet's Wireless Network Simulator but, I don't think this is what you're looking for. This is a network that is already setup. You just get to play around with some options.

Shouldn't you know how to setup a wireless network if you're going on an interview where they're going to ask you to setup wireless? I'm not trying to be a ***** here, I just don't understand how you even got the interview in the first place.

Actually i have good knowledge on theoritical part . But i have not configured yet practically.
Lockily i got a chance for an interview and i think i don't have to miss this oppertunity. That's why i am giving interest for this topic.

IMO, you don't have good knowledge of it. If your going for an interview you should at least the 'basics,' know the 'Protocol speeds of wireless devices'. Why you ask? This information is important for compatible devices/ across the network.

For example,

802.11a is OLD and only has a signal range 'up to' 75 feet. Frequency is 5.9GHZ and the DATA speed is up to 54MB average DATA speed is around 30MB

802.11b signal range up to 150 feet. Frequency is 2.4GHZ data speed is 'up to' 11MB Average DATA speed around 7MB.


802.11g signal range up to 150 feet. Also, runs on Frequency 2.4GHZ with a DATA speed up to 54MB, average DATA speed is 30MB.

IMO they will inform you to configure a wireless router that is 802.11b/g compatible. Next thing will be to secure the wireless router. I hope you know about wireless security.

Man oh man, Wireless security is childs play. All you need to know is how to log in and know the default ID and password. I dont exactly know what wireless router or AP the are using but they are very simular. 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 are the two IP addresses you will want to know. Open IE browser and type one of those in. you will get a box asking for ID and pw, type in admin and password or admin, admin. now you are in. Here you will see Wireless tabs or links and security tabs or links. In there you can set up the wireless informaiton and security. Wep is commonly used for security 64 bit is low for encryption and 128 is somewhat better. WPA is more secure but some AP cards dont support it. So set up 128bit and if its linksys or netgear or any other home brand you should be able to use a phrase to get a wep key. Chose open as the authentication and no the key isnt provided. You can us SSID but for security reasons this is frowned apon. But for the interview I would go with it so that you can set up the connection that much easier. To tell you the truth it would be smart of you to go out and look in barnes and nobles for wireless setup books. I know they have a few specific for linksys. But anyways thats the basics for wireless security that you should know. I would also study up on how to bridge a AP to a wireless router, or setting up a repeater. Linksys has downloadable manuals for there wireless routers so go look at there site too.
