    same ol mess

hi all, I run scans with adaware and spybot frequently and always end up with the same things back, I realize by visiting the same sites I'm probably getting the stuff right back, all I can seem to find on it is installing hosts files for it, is this the main solution or are there better spy programs out there?

When you installed Spybot did you enable "teatimer"? It is a utility that stops "things" from changing your registry.

Secondly do you use the Spybot "immunize" utility? If its the same stuff that comes back then it should be blocked by the immunization program.

If all else fails dump IE and move to Firefox.

    its all the same.

these are two good ones you are already using.

on the other hand, try finding some dodgy sites and then trying them afterwards.

    cheers

Along with Spybot S & D which has a HOSTS file manager with it, you can use Spywareblaster which will also protect your IE or FF browsing..

well I donty use either of the two things...:adware or spybot. I use windows Defender. What do you guys have to say about it??? IS it good to use this thing or should I switch to some other antispyware??? I have no problems with this and since it is integrated into windows, windows updates update it automatically.

I need your feedback on if windows defender is equally good as Adware or Spybot S&D??

There are a few things, like Virtumonde/Vundo that none of the major spyware programs can get rid of.

    Trust me.

If you still have the same issues, I'd advise trying the Vundo fixes if nothing else, I had to go through hell to get them off my system.

As for websites... disable ActiveX controls and you're years ahead.

I would not use windows defender, there are so many opportunities for MS to solve its spyware issues without adding yet another MS product to the machine.

The other products can be auto updates too.

I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, that spyware that comes back after it is removed is called a tickler?
