    i ... kinda ... need .... help ... the stupidest thing ever

basically i installed xp on my dual boot box w/ 2k and ubuntu (ubuntu rocks BTW the best distro... you can actualy use linux while learning it) anyway. obviously the f-ing windows didnt' even attempt to see if there are other os's on the hd.

what are my options ... can i reinstall grub or lilo from some kinda cd or something

sorry ... drunk as Ernest Hemingway at a wine tasting

What actually happened, or what was the end result.

IIRC one of your Windows has to be a retail version. If Windows 2000 was already there you should end up with a Windows boot prompt asking if you want to boot 2000 or XP?

Do you still have the partitions, or did they get wiped?............... I am trying to work out if this is a boot manager problem, or something more disastrous?

What I read here is that you had lilo or grub on the MBR of your harddisk..
After you installed Windows it replaced it with their own tiny bootloader..

The Ubuntu live/install CD will allow you to start the linux from your hdd (should have a repair or something option when booting)..

    I hope that helps a bit ..
