    Microsoft Private folder

My brother decided to download Microsoft Private folder and put it on his computer, to store his "sensitive" stuff (not sure what that means ). Anyway, he had a backup of this Microsoft private folder (among other things), before his HDD crashed. I restored the Microsoft Private folder, but now it looks just like a normal folder, and the contents are encrypted. I installed MS private folder again, thinking that it might work, but nothing I do seems to help. Is there any way to fix these files??

I think it's not possible. The default path is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Private Folder and it cannot be changed.
Did you restore it to the same path??

    Maybe it uses SIDs

    howdy.

i found this earlier, and i thus i tried it with no success..
"5. Import Encrypted Files: import the encrypted files which were exported from the private folder or left after uninstalling. To successfully import the files, you must enter the correct password of the original private folder where the files came from."
I tried restoring it to the private folder location, tried restoring it to another location then copying it to the private folder, but nothing works.

I did try MSoft, but because they've pulled the software they are not willing to give user support on it because there was no way it decrypt the data if things went pear shaped..

    Thanks anyhow..
