programs locked due to drive letter change

hello,
i use win xp sp2 mostly. Recently, my drive letters changed i.e. from drive :d to drive to :i,I don't know how this happen, perhaps due to installation of linux in multi boot environment or resizing and moving the partition without destroying data, wrongly. whatever reason but now some programme installed in drive :d refuses to start .i tried changing drive letter back but no profit, so i want to reinstall or uninstall them but they refuses to do so also. what should i do to uninstall them, reinstall , or better get them working? please help....

Yes I have had similar situations. Can you tell me some of the applications you are having problems with?

Normally, I have been able to resolve a lot of such issues by finding the icon on my desktop (if that is your situation) and doing a right mouse click, and finding the properties. The problem is generally the access path to the program (executable) that launches the application. Just edit that and you should be OK.

If you can just give me an example of an application that you use fairly regularly, I am sure that I could talk you through fixing it, and the rest will be the same?

the programs used were the
avg anti virus free edition ,
incredemail,
zonealarm, though its get started but its behavior is strange.
spybot search and destroy,
game :- readers digest word power..

i tried your tricks also earlier,and in fact its works for some programs only,
like dictionary"THE SAGE", emule, some small arcade games.

infact for incredimail i deleted its folder manually and all its registry key
and then tried to reinstall it but in vein.its say ":d/ incredimail/*.*" not found

Given those items, I would just download the latest versions and reinstall.

I don't use incredimail, but it seems to be looking for something in the root directory.............. probably in C:\?

Once again I would just do a clean download and install.

Hey Hey,

Check your Program Files directory... a quick way to do this is to go to your command prompt and type echo %programfiles%. Did you by chance have programs on your D Drive... if so you'll have to adjust it...This is a registry key change.

Anothing thing you can do is open regedit... and search for D:... everywhere you find it... replace it with I: or whatever other drive changes you've had... This will solve some of your problems..

greetings again to all,
by again searching root directory i got some file and deleting them and again searching in registry
and deleting them nearlyy all the problem solved except avg antivirus, its still there..( any how i am using avast home edition ...)

Certainly, you can change by hand registry entries from d: to i:,
or reinstall all programs that you have installed on drive d:, ...

however, ...



why don't you switch back your drive-letter assignment from
i: to d:? [1]
You even can "add" a d:-assignment to the i:-assignment.

A multi boot environment should not be affected by this, since your
drive-letter assignment is part of the configuration of the OS you
are starting... even if d: already is used by another "thing" - move
that first to another drive letter, then add the d:-assignment
to the partition in question.
