A Observation for your Review On SuperAntiSpyware" Prof Version

I will be posting this same comment on other forums for the members comments.
    =======================================================
    Disclaimer:
I test security software for my company as a living. I am not associated with SuperAntiSpyware or its affiliates, I am a user just like you, and enjoy working with new software and oberving how it works. I have tested this out on a older test pc with a older OS, and the following is my opinion only, you make the decision for yoursolf and comments on what you think. I am sure the developer will appreciated your insight.
    ===============================================================
    Installation:
Installation was quick and easy, no problems with installing or errors reported. After reboot memory consumption was about 3% of my resources, I am sure this will fluxuate on ones pc....for a older test pc this was acceptable for me.

    Main GUI:
This is also very interesting, the main gui is similar to your top antivirus softwares.
There are five functions you can access: Scan Computer - Scheduled scanning - Check Updates - Manual Quaratine and Preferences. These are slef explanatory and easy to use. You have these options at your finger tips.

    Scan:
I scanned my hard drive choose the complete scan, it took 30 minutes scanning the memory -registry and files. Granted this takes much longer than Spybot or Adaware but for me this is more desirable than a quick scan as it is complete, just my opinion.

    Updates:
They are frequent daily......... Using the free version you have to do updates manully.

    Real Time Protection:
When a detection is made you can access the list and determine what you want to do with the malware.....you can place them in a trusted zone or delete if you wish. You have numerous options under the preference tab to fine tune this software to your needs.

    Malware:
I have a small collection over time of malware which I have placed on my hard drive, upon scanning SuperAntispyware detected them all which I expected. As time goes on I will have a better feel how this software performs.

There is much more to this software at this time you need to work with and obersve how it preforms.

    Conclusion:
You be the judge......try it out....the free version or professional version, formulate your own opinoin and post your comments. My opinion.......it appears to be a good software in detecting malware and spyware, as this software progresses in development it should get better and better......

Oh yes....it has a function to protect against browser Hi-Jacking you can enable when installing this software............

    Hey antus welcome to AO.

A bit of advice huh?...........the following would be useful.

    1. Which operating systems is it supposed to work with?
    2. Which have you tested it on?
    3. What hardware requirements are recommended and have you tested ?
    4. What is its architecture/design............like is it pattern/signature based, heuristic, sandbox, behavioural?
    5. How much does it cost (use $US highstreet prices for example)? Here I am not only interested that there is a free one for private users, but also what commercial options there are should I want a corporate deployment.

A link to a website would save me having to use Google as well? OK I understand that you don't want to appear to advertise, but you are asking for people to try it and comment?

    Cheers

Seems to be a well-rated app at download.com . I perused the 45 comments on it. The cons seem to be slow on older PC's, problems with Kaspersky AV, disabled features only available in pro edition (understandable) and possible spyware. No editor rating as of yet. Only been out since July. I'm gonna give it a whirl on this box after a series of Spybot, Ad-Aware and HJT scans. Ran a whois on them, and they're based in Oregon. Company website matches the whois to a "T".

edit -- installs ok, seems to have nice features. I ran "thorough" scan. Haven't ever seen this one before: the scan is stuck in a loop on my Hijackthis folder. Keeps scanning the same two files: hijackthis.exe and hijackthis.txt. Been scanning for almost 10 minutes, over 5000 files. Or so it says. But again, the scan won't go past my HJT folder. Heads up.

edit #2 -- well, after 37 odd minutes and a supposed 20558 files (no way -- 2 or 3 files over and over!), we're still scanning "the loop". I opened an email with an excel attachment during the scan so the particular excel file, in a temp folder, is in the loop now. Scanning the two hijackthis files and an .xls file, and that's it. Got stuff to do on this machine, so I'm gonna shut the scan down. I will say, it's easy on the ram, doesn't come close to bogging down this old Celeron (WinXP, 128 mb's ram) the way Spybot and Ad-Aware do. Shutting 'er down, found no malicious software, so it's not flagging HJT as much as sticking on it.

edit #3 -- added a couple of lines to the HJT log:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SUPERAntiSpyware] C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERAntiSpyware.exe

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: SASWinLogon - C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SASWINLO.dll

I did set up the app on install to automatically update and some feedback option. Seems to have a lot of features. Oh, and this is the Pro edition I'm running. Neither Spybot nor Ad-Aware showed anything amiss after installing the app (it's spyware-free as claimed).

Did a retest on the first machine after removing hijackthis. Runs fine. The pro version I downloaded has real-time protection enabled and blocked a SpyFalcon install totally and an adware portion of the GoldenCasino software. Looks good so far. I might try some pr0n next (am I the only guy who downloads pr0n for the spyware?).

I also installed it on a laptop running XP trying to replicate the hijackthis problem I encountered on the first PC, but there was no problem.

    Fwiw.

I had a chance to run this baby on a few PC's this week. It's nice, very thorough. It picks up registry entries for stuff I've manually removed recently. And it's picking up stuff Ad-Aware and Spybot miss. It does have its share of false positives (picks up Famatech's Remote Administrator as rogue, but so does SpyBot). A couple of others too. So do your homework if'n you're not sure (Google is your friend).
