Just curious is all!

I am noticing a significant change in the AO interface. Has the classic appearance been changed on purpose or is this the result of an improper "upgrade"?

Why do you believe it's an improper upgrade? The change is due to the upgrade of the forum that has been going on for the last two days. Given the original source was rather challenging, the upgrade was rather monsterous but mnstgrl (no pun intended) did a great job, IMO.

I do, like many of you, appreciate the comforts of every day routine the security of the familiar and the tranquility of repetition.
Notwithstanding after getting used to the new look, I can say that it is an efficient design.

The old interface was maintained as much as it could be.

I guess if this was the intended outcome then it isn't improper. However, I wouldn't exactly define this as an "upgrade" . It would perhaps be best defined as a "change"
But perhaps we aren't seeing the same thing?
I am not seeing any of the classic features of the site I am used too. When the page loads for me it looks almost like the forum page is loading.
Also my avatar seems to be missing but I have that backed up as instructed.
Where do you adjust your site preferences now?
How do you get things like users online, antipoint center and IMs?
Am I missing something?(besides a few brain cells?)

Site prefs are in the User CP (link near top left). Users online is at bottom of the main forum page, also on the main page of the site. If you check the user CP you'll see lots of things there

Look near the top of this page for User CP (user control panel). You'll be able to adjust avatar, signature, etc. there. It is a new look and the upgrade couldn't be done exactly as before. It'll take some time to navigate through things.

Where can I find the announcement about the change?
Unless I'm missing something I don't seem to be able to edit my Avatar.
I click the link & get a box with no facility to add an avatar.
