    VNC / Remote Tool

In the last company I worked for, we used a VNC tool that had full control over the systems, I could open the systems directory, user manager or take full control of the user and I find each of these services to be equally beneficial.

The company I am working with now is using UltraVNC and it is configured horribly. I know I could use FastPush or one of the pieced together software packages to remove and redistribute the client in the appropriate manner.

My question is, what would be the best tool to maintain UltraVNC or should I use another package?

(btw: what the hell happened to AO? This new setup SUCKS!) - just my two cents.

What OS are your clients running?

If they're XP I suggest using the buildin Remote Desktop feature.

We are using the basic VNC. We packaged it and are pushing it out through GPO but most of our workstations are W2K.

We are getting ready to start deploying XP to the user community and are still evaluating what option we want to use for support. The one problem with RDP is that the user does not see what you are doing and if you are trying to show them something in a support mode that will be a problem.

BTW, I agree the new format is not growing on me but I will give it some time...

We are using RealVNC - on each workstation the RealVNC server is installed by default. I can use the RealVNC viewer or the Java-based viewer listening on port 5800 (although not as effective IMO). Obviously, the server installs are password protected...

A simple but effective soltuion for us...

We don't do it, but you may want to look into VNC over SSH for your purposes as well...

I guess the bugs are getting worked out of Bozteck, but for right now that is what I am using.
