Well the problem would be where to put em. The nature of the QR is that it's a bare bones reply designed for expediency, rather than full features.

Smilies?.........whaaat!........... smilies? do you think that this is a joke site my dear Moira?
That is why I use the full reply option. Seriously though, one of the problems with the internet (IMO) is that it is very "flat" or two dimensional?
Smilies allow a certain "animation" (?) that permits you to show a bit of "mood" or "emotion"............ you can let people know if you are joking or not? so that does help to stop flame wars and such?
Just my thoughts...........and I would like to see a greater choice, but as the additions I would like would be neither family nor work friendly, I don't hold out much hope

OK to give an example of a forum where it doesn't seem to be rocket science, I've taken a screen shot of pcpartsreview with the quick reply box and you can see a link to open a window of smilies.

That's invision power board, and probably a native feature of that software. Unfortunately it's not the least bit secure, so we don't use it.

Invision isn't secure, or adding a window of smilies? This is hosted by a guy that keeps it pretty well secured and patched actually. But OK if smilies are not an easy of secure feature to add then fair enough. It was just a suggestion. Do you know how to do the confused or questioning smily manually? I'd often quite like to add that but don't know how.

No, not the smileys, invision. They've had a ton of vulnerabilities. I visit one forum that uses it and it was hacked and impregnated with a virus that most of the members picked up (not me, thankfully)>

Must off been using a pretty outdated version of IPB for that exploit to work. there new version of IPB already has a few security problems yet to be plugged..

I don't know which exploit allowed them to be hacked, though.
