Are you by chance using Linksys and did this problem arise in just the past few months? If so, it's probably due to a firmware update they did.

Yes, I had to go through this too, at my parent's house (dad is challenged enough just by sending email). You have to get on the phone with linksys tech support, and they'll walk you through a process of downloading the firmware update, and resetting. It can be a pain though, since no one in their call center speaks English as a 1st language.
This has affected pretty much every linksys user I know of.

I found that the quickest way to fix the problem is to unplug the router and then plug it back in. It work 75% of the time for me. If that doesn't work I use the hard reset button, hold in for 60 sec and it will restore to factory defaults. And if it's still not working then I look for the last Good firmware and install that.
BTW can you connect to the internet if you connect to the router with a cable?
Good Luck

No, not for the problem he has. Recycling does help connectivity issues, the transient ones, but this sounds like the problem I had. No matter waht it doesn't pick up the net. That's the firmware update I described.
