Promiscuous mode,Linux,WiFi, D-Link
hi,
im gonna get myself a D-Link DWL-G650 pcmcia wireless card, this card uses the atheros chipsets, and it works with backtrack (ath_pci module).
My question is does it have support for promiscuous mode (while still associated with an AP), and can it inject packets? does it support ettercap?
because im gonna use it for my wlan, and i have one on my desktop pc (PCI) wich uses the same chipset and works fine.
thanks guys for your help

I doubt if you will get a reply in this forum as I don't think it is a "hardware" issue as such?
As a moderator, I read all posts in all forums, to ensure that I get the cheapest supply of viagra. I then move these posts to my private shopping mall so that no-one can corner the market or force the price up against me
Other members read forums that interest them, and "hardware" tends to be just that. Your question seems to be more applications related, so I will try it somewhere else.
Moved from "Hardware" forum.

Yes, all Atheros chipsets have these advanced features.
"Monitor mode" is not the same as promiscuous mode. "Promiscuous" mode accepts packets from any host on the same wireless network, whereas "Monitor mode" allows you to intercept packets for other wifi networks, including ones your card isn't associated with (providing they're on the right channel, strong enough signal etc).
Atheros chipsets can behave as several "Virtual interfaces" at once, allowing you to associate with an AP (in the normal way) and simultaneously sniff packets in monitor mode. Few other chipsets can do this.
Injection is also supported by the Atheros (madwifi) driver on interfaces in Monitor mode.
See the madwifi docs for more information.
Atheros chips really are the best for wifi diagnostics / cracking applications, fortunately they are also common and cheap.
