hmmm. I've had that mentioned to me before. That website is blocked by our smartfilter and it has been classed as spyware. I don't know if thats a "the kids will use it to spy on each other if they can download it" or a genuine problem.

Assuming it does what I think it does, VNC is good remote control software, various versions available free.

*snort* that works. good work smart filter.

actually...I could e-mail the guy and see if we can unblock it. Doesn't look suspicious to me.

I know this is a little late, but thought I'd chime in here.

I've been working for a ISP, and I have been evaluating some Remote support software for our company.

We tried out some software called Linktivity which is pretty nice software, but a little buggy in my opinion.

We ended up opting for a different solution for a company called Bomgar.

You have to buy their appliance and what not, but its a lot better in my opinion.

Not sure what your budget is, but with the enterprise appliance, 3 licenses, and a year of maintenance your looking at around $8,000.

Thats probably a little more than what you wanted to spend...which if that is the case, then Remote desktop support, or go-to-my pc or something like that will be your best bet.

I've used webex several times with vendors. It's pretty easy to use. They give you a meeting ID with a password and you connect over a secure (ssl) connection. You do have to install some software. Then you give permission to take over. You can retake control whenever you want.

    Others I've used:

TrackIT Remote (Add on for my helpdesk software)
    Remote Desktop/ Remote Assistance
    VNC
    RAdmin
    PcAnywhere
    Dameware
    NxServer (nomachine)

I've also demoed Adobe's product (based on flash) and another one by iLinc called SupportLinc. They were ok, but I still prefer VNC or Remote Desktop/Assistance for your own systems. Then Webex when working with vendors so you don't have to poke holes in the firewall.

Quitmzilla is a firefox extension that gives you stats on how long you have quit smoking, how much money you\'ve saved, how much you haven\'t smoked and recent milestones. Very helpful for people who quit smoking and used to smoke at their computers... Helps out with the urges.
