You'd have to put the image down, do the modification and then re-ghost/re-image it.

I know the process, I just wanted to hear what tools you use for making the modifications, before putting back the image, and if you use dd what tools you use, and in case of ghost, if the image happens to be ntfs which ghost explorer won't let you modify, what would you use in this case?

I think I'm a little confused as to what you exactly mean by "modifications"? Something like SysPrep? The tools would be dependent on the modifications..

I think you'd want a program that could open or mount the image. Which program would depend on which image type, eg. .iso or .gho. Then you make your changes, then use the program that originally created the image to recreate it.

    Hmmm,

If you are asking what I think you are, it goes against the fundamental principles of imaging.

    These are:

    1. Build your system.
    2. Test your system.
    3. Image your system.

    Subsequently:

    1. Modify your system.
    2. Test your modified system.
    3. Re-Image the modified system.

It would be verging on the suicidal to attempt to edit an existing image on its media. You must load the image onto a system and modify it in vivo.

If you don't believe me, just ask yourself how you would add or remove Norton's Security Suite, other than on a live system?
If you cannot do someone any good: don't do them any harm....
As long as you did this to one of these, the least of my little ones............you did it unto Me.
