    Quake the movie

    Wolfenstein the movie

    Hi,

Hacking has changed, so stuff that you read is probably out of date for the most part.

Hacking these days is mainly criminal in intent................. identity theft and suchlike.............or recruitment into some sort of bot army.

Now, the bot armies can be malicious, or just little scumbags out for bragging rights.............. the malicious ones are for hire...........

But I don't care................. all my pr0n is on my Acorn Archimedes that runs the RISC operating system.............. luser dorks haven't even heard of it............... I think that we killed them all in the Great Luser Cull of 1994

Roadie~ ole chap, I would be glad to share but the ole Achie~ only has a 192Mb HDD (hey! that was pretty big back then ) so I haven't got that much of a collection

finchxm.....Might I suggest that you take a quick tour around some of the security vendors' sites.......... they often have some quite good historical and general information type articles

    Cheers

what does the average hacker want... not to be average. Energy drinks, snacks, more bandwidth, new toys (software/hardware projects), probably a life.

It is kind of a toss up here. If you are curious about the world around you or like to explore, you probably want to know what makes a system tick. If you want to impress friends or look "cool", then you destroy things or leave your mark. It depends on the motive. Just because someone breaks into your computer and it appears they didn't mess with a file, it doesn't mean they didn't. Many hackers know how to change certain entries in a system's log, or file timestamps. Just make sure you have a good firewall and updated antivirus software. What has happened to you can happen to anyone.

Hackers want to spy on your computer - and when they find something interesting they steal it... documents anything important and useful for them...

How about a movie called doom that actually resembles doom in story line - ie, hell invading, demons and posession not "yet another zombie/alien movie"

Real l33t people don't use web translators, they write them.

And NEVER assume people don't want your files. Just because one person hacks in and does nothing harmful doesn't mean the next will be the same.

I work to the other assumption - I don't care if anyone gets my files. Everything I care about is hard copy or someone else's responsibility to look after (e.g. HSBC). Obv, that doesn't mean I give out passwords, but I don't bother encrypting etc.
If the world doesn't stop annoying me I will name my kids ";DROP DATABASE;" and get revenge.

Yes, based on the original Doom as in story line too. That movie could have been so much more....

Oh and lets not forget the three big ones:

    1) diabetes (geek diet = caffeine + sugar )
    2) lots of free stuff (software, games, data)
    3) Free Kevin.
