Latitude D420 & McAfee 8i patch 13 heads up
My experience is that the issue is just similar to the D620. When you install McAfee 8i alone or with patch 13 on the factory XP sp2, the laptop completely freezes. Which will render the Admin (or the administrators member a/c used to install) account useless! even if you manage to somehow get it into the damn box, the problem is aggravated when you try and install patch 13.
So Restart it in safe mode, Run Msconfig and disable McAfee framework service, Network associates Mcshield and Network associates Task Manager. Restart and install patch 13 and all is well after that. I think this work around is included in the software installation notes, thats the last time i take a manual and chuck it into a shredder Don't load images either that didn't work! Thought people should know
Later!
