Tell him to look up port forwarding for his router.

games will not work multiplayer on the wireless. they dont understand wireless network somehow.

have tried it. you can transfer files and stuff but not able to play games. maybe its just the games i have tried, as somehow they always freese up whenever i have tried to connect through the wireless...
you are entering the vicinity of an area adjecent to the location.

Games can't be played on wireless... I better disconnect my wireless then and stop playing DoW, Ravenshield, Eve online, City of Heros, and many others that I play. You must have meant games cannot be played accross an AD-HOC network connection, Which I'm not sure if it would work or not. I do play multiplayer games within my lan across wireless without any issues though. Chances are since it is on a "diffrent" wan that they are not on the same network and it IS a port forwarding issue.

This could be perhaps that a 'wireless' network uses TCP/IP Protocol to communicate with each device. Most games AFAIK typically use the IPX Protocol. This needs to be installed on each adapter on each workstation and depending on your gateway/firewall to also be configured.

Apart from that, w/less does not work any differently from a wired network (Providing they both use the same protoco )

[edit] you might also want to look at point-to-point (PPTP) VPN from your router, across the wuh wuh wuh, and to your friends router. [/edit]

Theres a neat little program out there called Hamachi.

It uses the internet to establish a virtual LAN between clients. This might help solve your problem.

The last game that needed IPX/SPX was Doom IIRC. Doom 1 that is..

Ok, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who caught that. I'm sitting here scratching my head... wa-wa-wa-what?!
